GPOYW: interesting and relevant sentiment found near Chelsea Pier.

(ps - it actually puts publishers out of business. good thing the opportunity for change is always standing before us…)

I have actually already stolen my first book for my Kindle, Scott Belsky’s Making Ideas Happen. I actually own a hardcover copy of it, and wanted to have it on my Kindle so I could read it wherever I was. I went to Amazon to buy it, and found that the title, while available on the Kindle, wasn’t available in Australia.

I’ve said it before, I will say it again, the biggest disruption the web has made is not that it makes it easier to steal media, but that it circumvents business models where geography is crucial. The notion that I can’t buy a Kindle book because of my location (read: for a device with built-in 3G for the express purpose of making location irrelevant) is, I’m sorry, fucking ridiculous.

I will always try to obtain content I need to pay for by rewarding the creator financially first. Where those efforts are thwarted due to idiocy or failure to evolve, I will take matters into my own hands.

I’d like to point out as part of my efforts to Do The Right Thing(TM) I also sent a message to Scott via Twitter:

David Gillespie messages Scott Belsky on Twitter

Scott, if you’re reading, the offer still stands.
